How Your Mindset Affects Success6 min read

Your mindset really affects your success in life. Have you ever wondered why some children shy away from challenges and crumble at the first sign of a struggle? Maybe your child has a history of quitting activities, sports, or school work when they didn’t immediately excel.

Maybe years of struggle or a few bad experiences have convinced your child that “I’m just not good at that.” Learning about fixed and growth mindsets will help you to change destructive patterns, allowing your child to lead a happy and fulfilled life full of lifelong learning and limitless potential.

In her book “Mindset“, Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck summarizes decades of research on how a person’s mindset affects achievement and success.  Her research shows that there are two mindsets that we all employ: Fixed and Growth.

What is Fixed Mindset?

In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. These types of people feel defeated after a failure and step away from challenges outside their comfort zone.

What is the Growth Mindset

In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.  These types of people view challenges and failures as opportunities to learn and grow.  They persist despite setbacks. This mindset is the hallmark of achievement and success.

Why is it important?

Holding a fixed or growth mindset has huge implications when it comes to motivation. If children have a fixed notion of intelligence, they probably believe that success has a lot to do with talent. They may think that some are born with the ability to succeed, and others just aren’t. They might view successful people as possessing some unattainable, innate gift. The side effect of the fixed mindset is a helpless or apathetic attitude toward effort — especially when it comes to challenging tasks.

The simple belief that intelligence is malleable can better equip children for challenging tasks and difficult subject matter. If they know that they can develop their abilities, that effort and dedication make a difference in the formula for success, and then children won’t become paralyzed by a challenge. The growth mindset creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for achieving goals.

Mindset Application

We all have some shades of both growth and fixed mindsets, depending on the situation. Cultivating a growth mindset will improve your ability to succeed in all areas of life. Learning a growth mindset creates motivation and productivity in the worlds of business, education, and sports. It affects how you lead, manage, parent and show up in relationships. Think about how you last approached a challenge: with curiosity for what you could learn, or by thinking about how you might appear if things went wrong?  If the latter, it might be time for a mindset change.

There are very many ways that one can create an accomplishing mindset. In this world, we have people who are successful and those who are not, the only difference between the two are that the successful do things that failures do not like to do. Being successful is all in the mind, you have to first tune your mind.

There are very many experts who have come out with different methods of creating a successful mind. The problem is not how to set our mind but rather the action we take. There is a saying that says ‘as a man thinketh so is he.’ It is not what happens that controls you but the way you react to those happenings.

Whatever you think about is what will be attracted to you. If you think of success then that is the realm in which you will live. the main thing that you have to note is that there are those who are very successful and so you can also be if only you follow their footsteps. It is very important for one to study those people who have achieved their goals and copy them.

This is especially if they are successful in the same areas that you want to achieve your goal in. This enables one to think that it is possible. This will bring optimism to you. It is also very important to read a successful person’s life so as to know how they dealt with barriers.

For you to have an accomplishing mindset, you must walk around successful people. This will help you to borrow their way of doing things in an optimistic way like their habits, way of handling matters and also their way of thinking. You should avoid those people who are pessimists. They are only draining you of your blood and using you. You should also make a list of what you want to achieve and see whether you are moving towards the direction of your goal. If you want to be successful, you must first accept it and also believe that it could happen.

This will come down to you having to put down an accomplishment for that goal. In all this, the most important thing is your attitude towards your accomplishment. You should also have a mentor. If you believe in yourself then the other people will also believe in you.

You must have it in your mind that success comes from within you first and then your effort in acting upon it. You should carry yourself around as a responsible person and this will make those around you to respect you.

Howdy just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.

Awesome post. I have noticed that as well about some people that are seen as smart or very talented. They only try and do things that they are good at and can win. When it comes to something that they have to work and grind to accomplish they seem to back away from it. They have a look of defeat and embarrassment on their face because they weren’t able to succeed. They didn’t live up to their smarts. Their talent failed them. They have this unrealistic way of realizing that truth. That their talent gets them recognized and in the door. But that work ethic keeps them their. You have to work for what you want and not everytime will you hear a yes. You will hear 1,000 no’s before you hear that one yes.
